Evaluating Your Pet from Head to Tail
At Paradise Animal Hospital, we want your pet to be as healthy and happy as possible. In our experience, one of the best ways to keep pets healthy is through regular wellness exams. Pets can be very good at hiding health issues, which may not be apparent until a disease is more advanced. During wellness evaluations, your veterinarian will perform a thorough examination on your pet to look for subtle abnormalities that might otherwise be missed. We recommend annual exams for pets that are young and healthy, and evaluations every six months for seniors and patients with health concerns.

What Happens During a Wellness Examination?
At Paradise Animal Hospital, one of our experienced veterinarians will perform a comprehensive examination that assesses a range of body systems.
During a wellness examination, your veterinarian will:
- Check your pet’s weight and determine if it is appropriate for their frame
- Evaluate your pet’s eyes, ears, and nose
- Check your pet’s lymph nodes
- Assess your pet's skin for signs of dermatitis or other issues
- Look in your pet’s mouth to assess the health of his or her teeth and gums
- Listen to your pet’s heart and lungs
- Palpate your pet’s abdomen for abnormalities
- Evaluate your pet’s muscles, spine, and joints
- Assess your pet for signs of pain
Following the examination , your veterinarian will discuss their findings with you and document them in the medical record. Depending on your pet's age and what is found on the exam, your veterinarian may recommend blood work or additional testing to get a more comprehensive picture of your pet's health.
